Boost Your Beauty with Food – Dietitian Approved Beauty Food Guide | Ilana Muhlstein, MS, RDN

Hello everybody It’s Ilana, co-creator of the 2B Mindset! In today’s video I am going to tell you all of my favorite ways to boost your beauty with food!

00:17 What to do with oily or dry and scaly skin?
I always direct people to essential omega-3 fatty acids. They can be found in chia seeds and flax seeds. Omega-3’s are so important because they are necessary for healthy oil secretion which gives skin a healthy suppleness and glow. Vitamin A goes well with omega-3’s because it is fat soluble and essential for healthy skin cell formation. You can find it in orange vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes, it’s also in dark green leafy vegetables like kale. We want to make sure we are eating these foods often to maintain a healthy skin appearance.

01:09 What do I do about extra skin and stretch marks after I lose weight?
When you start losing weight I start to call them shrink marks, they are no longer stretch marks! If you’ve had them for a long time they are not going away instantaneously. They will however go from being big, bright, and red to being small, translucent, and clear. They are really no big deal! But I recommend before hitting the beach in your swim suit that you protect them with sun screen. I found for myself that protecting them from the sun is very important to avoid more discoloration. And of course a lot of people ask me what are they going to do with their extra skin? I honestly believe more people are concerned about this then actually have an issue with it. Listen stretch marks and extra skin are things that I obviously know about because I’ve had 2 pregnancies and lost 100 pounds. But you would really be amazed at what you can achieve with consistent exercise and toning. With the 2B Mindset you are going to lose weight steadily, gradually, and it stays off for good so the skin usually tightens with you. If you were doing yoyo and crash diets where you lose a lot of weight fast and gain a lot of weight fast. These are the instances where you create permeant stretch marks and loose skin. The 2B Mindset will definitely be a nice solution for getting your shrink marks and also if you see skin, you win! It will tighten with you as you continue to find different workout programs that you enjoy.

02:35 What is the best beauty ingredient or best beauty nutrient?
I direct people to collagen because it is the most abundant protein in our body. It is also what gives our skin its elasticity, suppleness, and fullness. Collagen tends to decline in our 20’s and 30’s so it is a good idea to eat more foods that promote collagen formation. Foods that contain Zinc which can be found in salmon for example and sulfur found in garlic aid in collagen formation. Silica can be found in cucumbers and Vitamin C found in dark green leaf vegetables, berries, and citrus fruits. We can use all of these great properties in these foods to promote healthier, better, more youthful looking skin. A lot of people tell me that once they start eating well with my recommendations they notice a change in their skins texture and appearance. I also love adding my Power Greens Shakeology Booster.

I call my Power Greens Shakeology Booster my beauty booster because it has a lot of these foods in it. It has a lot of those dark leafy greens like kale and chlorella, also matcha and cucumber. That is why it is my beauty booster, because it is great at promoting a healthy acid alkaline balance in the body. Which I think creates a more balanced inside and outside appearance as well. Of course that is subjective, but when I add my beauty booster I feel glowy that day and that is always a good thing.
