This question is from #AskLiveLeanTV Ep. 001.

ciscoballs on Snapchat asks the following questions: do we eat deer meat? What does venison taste like? What do we think about shellfish? Is shrimp good for weight loss?

If you’re not familiar with deer meat, it is also called venison. If I was eating at a fancy restaurant, I’d definitely order the venison, since it is a very healthy wild meat. However, since it is hard to find locally, it is not a food that I cook or eat in my everyday diet.

Where can you find venison?
The only time I’ve cooked venison was when my uncle gave me leftover meat from his hunting trip. Since he is a hunter, after shooting a deer, he brings it back to his farm. Then he prepares the venison by cleaning and cutting it into regular portion sizes.

Is wild game deer meat healthy?
Although I am not a hunter, wild game meat, such as venison, is one of the healthiest forms of meat that you can eat. Conventional factory farmed meat that is available in grocery stores, is not the same as wild meat.

What Does Venison Taste Like?
When possible, always select wild, free range, and grass fed meat over factory farm raised. Besides being more humane, the meat is also healthier. A big reason for this is the omega 3 fatty acid ratio of free range meat is much higher than factory farmed meat.

What does venison taste like?
If you’re wondering what venison tastes like, you may noticed that it does taste gamey. However, as you add more venison into your diet, your tastebuds will adapt, and you’ll get used to the taste. Plus you can also cook it with healthy herbs, spices, and seasonings.

Is Shrimp Good For Weight Loss?
I enjoy eating shellfish, such as shrimp. We’re always asked for high protein snack ideas. Shrimp is a great high protein snack that a lot of people don’t think about it. You can also buy and snack on a frozen shrimp tray. As long as the shrimp is not too high in sodium, it is another alternative for a healthy protein source.

Bottom line on deer meat and shellfish. Both deer meat and shellfish are good sources of protein. One of the main reasons why I could see you not eating either of them, is because of your location and environment. In other words, you wouldn’t eat venison or shellfish because you don’t have access to them where you live.

Just because I don’t eat venison every week, it’s not because I consider it an unhealthy food. It’s just not as readily available to me like grass fed beef is. If venison was readily accessible to me, it would be a staple food in my diet.

When it comes to shellfish, I do eat it more frequently than venison, but again, it’s just not a food that I eat everyday.

So here’s my tip if you want to expand your range of food preferences. Next time you go out for a nice dinner, rather than ordering something that you would cook at home, such as steak or a chicken breast, look for something on the menu that is different. This is your opportunity to experiment.
