Hey Dandelions! Today I’m going to be talking about the NOOM app and all of it’s amazing benefits. I was in the fitness & health profession for many years, and wish I had this app to share with my clients and friends. Some of us keep a life journal, writing down joyous and sad moments, trying times, vacations, anything that sparks memories and feelings. This app is my fitness journal of sorts. Keeping me on path to a healthier lifestyle!

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS

When I first downloaded this app I thought to myself, “I don’t need this” I’m a personal trainer, I don’t need any motivation or anyone to hold my feet to the fire. Obviously, I’m wrong. I need it more than most people. It was almost a humbling experience to use the app because once I dove in, I was hooked.

FEATURES & COMPARISONS

LOGGING YOUR MEALS

This feature was my favorites for many reasons. As I mentioned in the video, my relationship with food has not been a healthy one in the past. Lately, due to situations out of my control, I have found those bad habits creeping back into my life. I.e… getting used to the hunger feeling again, not eating at all, or not eating enough. The list goes on. This feature was essential in helping me not fall into the anorexic trap again. The reason being I could see my progress daily, see what I’m lacking, and basically hold myself accountable. Not only that, it breaks down portion control for you, in a very user-friendly way. It also teaches you about food groups and which ones have essential nutrients and which ones don’t. You are educating yourself and developing a health relationship with food. Its awesome!

COACHING
Who wouldn’t want help at their disposal anytime you need it? ME! This feature surprised me. You know when a company says “we have 24-hour support” “customer service is our priority” but its nothing of what they claim? My initial thoughts when discovering they have online coaching was “yeah…heard that before” I was wrong. The responsive time of the NOOM coaches is very impressive. They are sweet, quick to respond, positive and helpful. I knew when I asked a question, Dana, my coach, would respond within a few hours, most of the time it was sooner. To me that’s immediate gratification. Total WIN WIN!!

RECIPES

If you’re anything like me, you cook the same 5 meals for your family most days because it’s easy and you know they’ll eat it. I feel guilty at times; knowing I need to expose my kids to more foods than the same old same old. The recipe section has a very easy breakdown of the ingredients, how to prepare and the nutrition value! It tells the calories of each ingredient within the meal, as well as the food group it falls into. NOOM developed a color system to help you easily understand what’s in the food you’re eating and to help you make healthy food choices.

For example:

Green Foods are the least calorie-dense/ or contain the highest concentration of healthy nutrients, and should make up the bulk of your diet. I.e. veggies & whole grains

Yellow Foods have more calories/less healthy nutrients per serving than green foods and should be consumed in moderate proportions. I.e. lean meets and starches

Red Foods are the most calorie dense foods and should be eaten less frequently and in smaller portions. I.e. red meats & desserts.

Using this color system really helped my relationship with food; It hels my daily intake to be more balanced.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

All in All, I am loving this app! The user-friendly layout makes your fitness goals experience a pleasant one. If you’re thinking about it, do it. I tend to have apps for everyt area in my life. NOOM is a one stop shop for all your fitness & health needs!
