Finding potential clients is cruical when you are starting out. You won’t have anyone knocking on your door and you need to build a client base from scratch.

Depending on what coaching niche you choose to work in, you need
to target people who are:
o interested in development and growth;
o open to the possibility of working with a coach – or who know other people
who might be;
o and able to invest their time in talking with you about your coaching services and their coaching needs.

There are many, many tradtional ways of finding people to sell to: cold calling, taking a stall at a coaching and development exhibition, joining professional coaching bodies, offering sessions for free and so on.

All these strategies are great of course but if you want to coach online, you should take advantage of the possibilities that come with the internet. Probably the most common way to use the internet to generate new leads is through content marketing. Bascially, you share free content via your website, facebook, youtube or some other plattform to get the attention of potential clients and if you they like your product or service the get in contact with you.

I will now teach you a 5 step plan to use content marketing as a coach. It’s fairly simple yet very powerful.

Step 1- Define Your Client

If your goal is to attract more clients through the content you create, you need to speak directly to their specific needs.

The way I’ve been successful at defining my ideal client is by creating a persona and writing content that consistently speaks to one person.

By writing to a persona, I attract my target audience and eliminate people who aren’t interested in the content or services I provide.

To create a persona, start by answering a few simple questions:

What’s their gender?
What’s their age?
What are their interests?
What’s their education level?
What pain points do they have?

You could even go so far as to print out an actual photo of someone who represents your ideal client.

Keep in mind that as always in marketing, if you’re trying to reach everyone, you’re reaching no one.

Narrow in on your client and develop a clear focus on providing solutions to their biggest problems through great content.

Step 2- Have a Content Strategy

It doesn’t matter if you blog, vlog or podcast – you will always need a content strategy to know what to post about each week.

A content strategy forces you to consistently create good content that your audience looks forward to.

I personally like to keep it simple and just write video or blog ideas in a special note app on my phone. That way I never forget something even when I’m not in the office when an idea pops into my head.

Coming up with content ideas and a strategy might sound like a lot of work, but once you understand who your target client is, it becomes much easier to narrow down your strategy.

Bascially, ask yourself:

“What exactly are the biggest questions my client asks themself every day?”

Once you have thse written down you answer them in your content. This is a very straightforward and simple strategy but it works. For example, in my fitness coaching business I write down all the questions and emails I get from students every day and then I record videos answering the most common ones.

Step 3 – Be a Storyteller

Telling a good story is jsut as important as educating your clients – maybe even more important.

As a coach, there are so many ways for you to tell compelling stories. One way to do this is by sharing success stories through client interviews. You’ll need consent for confidentiality purposes, but imagine what heartfelt stories and testimonials from your clients could do to improve your brand.
