Basic Fitness Competition Makeup Tutorial

For those of you who are curious what to look for for competition makeup, maybe some techniques and the application process, as well as some helpful tips, this tutorial is for you.

By no means am I a professional. I am just a girl who has worn makeup before and am going to attempt to do it myself for stage day!!

Interested in doing it yourself? Here are some things you will need:

*Makeup Forever HD in shade #177 (If you are fair like me this is a really good shade to use to match your competition tan)
*Hard Candy Heavy Duty Concealer in shade light/medium
*Ben Nye Translucent Setting Powder
*A matte contour shade and a highlighter (I used the NYX contour palette)
*A variety of matt browns and shimmer light shades (a good palette will do – I used the Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay, the NYX palette, and the matte black from Smashbox)
*Matte Blush in a complimentary shade (I use a peach)
*Eyebrow pencil/shadow if needed (I use a Benefit Duo)
*White Eyeliner
*Mascara (I use Benefits Roller Lash – soooooo good!!)
*Longwear lipstick (I use ABH liquid matte lipstick in Heathers)
*Setting Spray (I used Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray)
*A variety of makeup brushes…

I highly recommend you also wear a set of falsies – I am incompetent at using them so I will be getting the volume lash extensions closer to my competition. You want to make sure they are not too too long as lights will be above you and your lashes may cast a shadow on your face.

Lets be honest this is not a makeup competition, its a bodybuilding competition, so if it not absolutely perfect, thats ok! You want your makeup to compliment your suit but also look super glam. I wouldn’t recommend blue eyeshadow….but neutral tones with a pop of colour is nice!

Your makeup should be dramatic because those bright stage lights will wash you out and make sure to take away any shine because that will be amplified. Don’t be afraid of a liberal application.

It can be helpful to get one of those lighted mirrors to check your work if you’re worried. You should also bring a little makeup kit for touchups in your backstage bag just in case.
