In this episode of Abbey’s Kitchen, I’m reviewing YouTuber, Stephanie Buttermore’s ALL IN videos. Buttermore is a former fitness bikini model and through that experience she experienced symptoms related to hypothalamic amenorrhea which is a very common condition in the sports world. Some of the risk factors for HA are: low caloric intake, low body fat levels, excessive exercise, psychological stress and genetic predisposition.
What is Set Point Theory?
Set point theory is when your body tries really hard to maintain its comfortable weight range by regulating its metabolism. It will speed metabolism up when its been overfed and slow metabolism down when the body’s been underfed in an effort to eliminate large fluctuations in weight. Basically our body wants to be whatever it wants to be, no matter what we try to do. One of the best ways to increase your set point is to diet.
Stephanie believes that by going all in, she’ll kickstart her metabolism, reach a weight plateau and no longer feel extreme hunger, and lose this “overshoot weight”.
Going all in may put people at risk for referring syndrome, however it is unlikely that this will happen to Stephanie.
Here’s where I think Stephanie is really rocking it.
Her enormous amount of bravery in coming out speaking freely about this lifestyle change.
She’s prioritizing her health, energy and future fertility over aesthetic goals and being “thin”
She seeks out the advice of experts that are actually evidence based
She vowed to stop tracking her macros and calories and weighing herself
She talks about buying new clothes which is a fantastic step in recovering
Here’s where I think Stephanie can improve?
Getting rid of diet culture talk
She still has some food rules
She’s still exercising quite heavily
I want to close off with a great quote which is: “The more that you control food, the more it controls you.”
If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel. Leave me a comment with other diets and/or youtubers you want me to review. Also if you have any questions for me, please leave me a comment with them, and I will hopefully answer them in one of my future videos.
