Competitive fitness modelling is about having a great physique, and a big personality on stage. But on the day, what often separates the winners from the rest is conditioning – having a lean, hard look which shows the definition of the muscles off at their best. One way of achieving that is to manipulate the water intake to make the body ‘dry out’, and harden the muscles. It’s a technique which should only be used for a very short period of time, as obviously the body needs water to survive. But here’s how it’s done properly. Fitness model Rowan nailed his first ever competition by coming in lean, hard and dry. He already has an amazingly defined physique, but that extra bit of conditioning showed him off at his best – for example, check how the obliques are revealed when he raises his arms. That, and an athletic performance on stage drawing on his street-dance background, caught the eye of the judges and earned Rowan first place in his category at Britain’s biggest ever fitness competition, the Miami Pro Championships.
