Bellamy’s cheeky fitness test for Cooper Cronk’s shoulder – Blog newsMelbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy would have overseen plenty of Cooper Cronk fitness tests during their long stint together, and it seems he still wants to be the first to know whether or not the star halfback will be taking the field.Bellamy has decided to test out Cronk’s injured shoulder for himself, giving the injured Roosters star a cheeky slap following a grand final press conference. The halfback’s fitness has been the subject of much speculation in grand final week, with Cronk himself admitting he was “a long shot” to take the field against his former club on Sunday. But as Cronk went over to shake hands and wish Bellamy well for the grand final, the Storm mentor gave him a friendly slap on the injured shoulder.Cronk appeared to show no discomfort from the incident, a far cry from when he left the field at half time during the Roosters’ preliminary final win over Souths. On that occasion Cronk screamed in pain after the Roosters mascot gave him a similar tap on the shoulder.Cronk admitted during the media conference that he’s still not certain to play in the premiership decider.“I got a bit of improvement today and it definitely needs some.Still trying to throw a Hail Mary.Hopefully it lands and we’ll see how we go on Sunday,” Cronk said.“I think most people in this room know that I’m pretty diligent, pretty professional with what I do, but I’ve gone up 1000 knots on that this week.“To be able to do some of the things to get stability, movement, range, it’s okay, it’s an improvement. But it’s not enough to tackle Jesse Bromwich or Dale Finucane.“So I’ve got a fair bit of work to do.“But it’s just going to get to a point where I have to test it.I’ll tell you right now, the only reason why I won’t play on the weekend, is I’ll be physically incapable of doing it.
